The Guardian is launching a new "Guardian Local" service next year in Leeds, Cardiff and Edinburgh and are looking to hire qualified bloggers who could cover community news and report on local developments.
While they're not the first, they're certainly one of the highest profile entrants.
Does this suggest a shift for national media into regional offerings, where smaller areas are served with community and user generated content?
